We will visit the Wolfpark Werner Freund once more.
This one is not a loop. We will start from Merzig and end in Mettlach. Expect a number of surprises along the way.

Check DB or CFL for train tickets from Luxembourg or Trier.
If you plan to go by car you can leave it in either town:
1. OPTION 1 (recommended). If you park in Mettlach, you will need to take a Mettlach-Merzig train in the morning.
2. OPTION 2 (if you miss your train). If you park in Merzig, you will need to take a Mettlach-Merzig train in the afternoon.
Either way, it is advisable to buy your tickets in advance.
If you carpool with me, we will go for OPTION 1. We will park the car in Mettlach and take the 10:05 train to Merzig. The train takes 4 min and tickets go for €4.30.
Remember that there are passport controls in Germany: bring your documents and allow enough time in case you are controlled.
