Koblenz, where the Rhine meets the Moselle (14 km urban promenade)

28 January 2023 @ 12:00 - 16:00

At the confluence of the Rhine and the Moselle there is the picturesque city of Koblenz, the gate to the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage.

Starting from the train station, we will climb our way up to the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, across the Rhine, from where we will have a stunning view of the city. On our way to the Deutsches Eck, right at the confluence of the two rivers, we will visit the gardens of the Kurfürstliches Palace.

This should leave us ample time to explore the Old Town, together or on your own.

The train trip from Luxembourg takes slightly over two hours each way. At the time of this writing, the return ticket costs €25 at bahn.com. It can be even cheaper if several tickets are purchased together. I will probably take the 9:33 train from Luxembourg and return at 19:19 but feel free to make your own arrangements.

We will be hiking in the same area on the following day. This opens the possibility of a weekend-long trip.
